This is a genealogical research review on the surname Sleger (Schlegel), deriving from the Czech Republic.

Colonel Joseph J. Sleger reflected on his U.S. Marine Corps military career in Vietnam and Korea.

"In our work and effort to enjoy the achievements of a free society, and in making our freedom more secure, we have learned that if freedom is to endure, it must be shared."

Sergeant Paul H. Sleger served in World War Il in the 2nd Squad, 3rd Platoon, A Company, 63rd Armored Infantry Battalion, 11th Armored Division. With detail and passion, he discussed his courageous combat experiences and the horrors of war, including the loss of his troops and the rigors of combat. Paul bravely fought against the Nazis, who had a deep animosity towards. “It’s difficult to imagine the animosity one feels toward the enemy and his countrymen, especially when one of your close buddies is killed or wounded. Does this animosity subside once the enemy surrenders and /or peace is declared?" It's a tale of courage, fortitude, and...a bit of luck. . References: NSDAR, Washington, D.C
